Walking into a new fitness studio for the first time can feel a little like walking into a party where everyone else already knows each other.

Where do I put my stuff?
Do I need to bring anything?
Is everyone going to know what they’re doing except me?
What if I can’t keep up?

If those thoughts have ever kept you from trying a new class, you’re definitely not the only one.

At Flow Fitness Boutique, we have women walking through our doors for the first time all the time. And while every class is a little different, there are a few things you can expect when you take your first class at Flow.

You Don’t Need to Know What You’re Doing

Really.

You don’t need to know the choreography. You don’t need to recognize the equipment. And you definitely don’t need to understand what your instructor means the first time she calls out a move you’ve never heard of.

That’s what the instructor is there for.

Come a few minutes early, let your instructor know it’s your first time, and she’ll help you get set up and explain anything you need to know before class begins.

And if you occasionally turn left while everyone else turns right?

Congratulations. You’re officially one of us. πŸ˜‚

You Don’t Need a Special Outfit

Workout clothes you can comfortably move in, supportive shoes for classes that require them, and a water bottle will cover you for most classes.

Matching workout set? Optional.

Perfect hair? Definitely optional.

We promise nobody is grading your outfit.

Every Class Feels a Little Different

One of the best things about Flow is that there isn’t just one way to work out.

Maybe you discover that you LOVE lifting heavy weights.

Maybe Pilates is more your speed.

Maybe you need loud music and a dance floor.

Maybe you’d rather punch something. πŸ˜‚

And maybe the answer changes depending on the day.

That’s exactly why we encourage new clients to try several different formats instead of judging an entire fitness studio by one class.

You Can Modify

Your workout doesn’t have to look exactly like the person next to you.

Our instructors can offer modifications and options so you can work at a level that makes sense for you. As you become more familiar with the movements and get stronger, you can progress from there.

The goal isn’t to prove anything during your first class.

It’s to figure out what feels good for you.

Yes, You Can Bring Your Kids

For a lot of moms, the hardest part of taking a fitness class isn’t finding the motivation.

It’s finding someone to watch the kids.

Flow’s Little Angels Club offers supervised on-site childcare during select class times, so your little ones can stay nearby while you get your workout in.

And No, Everyone Isn’t Looking at You

This might be the biggest first-class fear of all.

The truth?

Everyone else is mostly thinking about themselves.

They’re trying to remember what comes next, wondering how many reps are left, deciding whether they’re brave enough to grab the heavier dumbbells, or counting down until the instructor finally says, “Last one!” πŸ˜‚

Flow is also a women-only fitness studio, which helps create an environment that’s relaxed, supportive and refreshingly low-pressure.

You’ll probably realize pretty quickly that you were much more worried about your first class than you needed to be.
